Terrain – Our Story

Terrain’s Beginning

Terrain has gone through many changes since it was first established in 1983; selling safety boots, logging equipment and wire rope. Back then, Terrain was a small store under the banner of Taupo Rigging and Safety. Setup initially under the management of lifetime legend of logging, Pat O’Sullivan. A lot changed, but Terrain was always about giving expertise and service to the guys in the bush. The drive for minimal downtime was alive and well in the 80’s as much as it is now. Purchased by Mark and Lisa Aldridge in 2006, the company was re-branded under the Terrain banner you know today and moved to our current site at 6 Miro Street. Today marks an ever increasing range of safety boots and forestry supplies (and still driving that minimal downtime philosophy).

Terrain has always been known for our range of Forestry and Logging Equipment. We’ve spent years supplying the industries need as a national distributor for Talkie Tooter Systems, Spencer Logging Tapes, White Ox Gloves and KISWIRE Wire Rope. Back when everyone was still on saws, we were supplying everything but the saw itself. By this I mean head to toe safety gear as well as everything needed to keep the Pole Haulers pulling wood. From strops and fittings to Mains and Skylines.

These Days

It’s a bit different these days with the growing rise of mechanisation. Of course we’re still keeping the contractors kitted out with safety gear and still NZ’s distributor of Last Rite Boots — and they’re still made in Whangarei too! You’d have seen us working with Swing Yarders and mechanical fellers and processors more over the recent years. Our rope winder truck works hard too, delivering rolls of Swaged 7/8″ (22mm) Tail Rope direct to skid sites across NZ. Of course, plenty of Main Rope and Skyline goes out that door too. You can grab our rope in Swaged, Plain or Powerpac.

But our range isn’t just forestry and safety equipment. Our selection of Silviculture and Arborist gear is ever expanding too—you’ll have to see our Barnel pruning range to believe it. From the most beginner of pruners and secateurs through to professional grade saws rivaling the best in the market, as well as lightweight chaps and glasses to keep you safe; it’s all here in store.

The More you Know

While you’re likely familiar with our selection of forestry and safety gear, we’re also doing a lot of certification work right throughout the country. Both on our site with our custom fit test bed and wherever we’re needed. We can even send Mark out 24/7 if needed (sorry Mark). It’s that minimal downtime focus again.

If there’s anything in the above you’d like our advice on: Get in touch! We’d love to go into detail about what else we can help with. Remember to stay in touch by signing up to our newsletter below and follow us on facebook.

Cheers,
